We present our beloved companions now at the Bridge.
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals that had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor.
Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again,
just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing;
they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.
His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet,
you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head,
and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet,
so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….
Metsa was our first Elkhound. Metsa was not a part of our breeding program, but she was our first Elkhound and was dearly loved. She earned her CD at 17 months old, (two 3rd-places and one 1st-place in all-breed competition). She was the #1 Novice Obedience Elkhound in 2001. She has her OA and OAJ agility titles and was the #1 Novice Agility Elkhound in 2004. She earned her Rally Novice title at the 2006 NEAA Nationals, followed quickly by her Rally Advanced title in Oct 2006, and her Rally Excellent title at the 2008 Nationals with a 3rd place. After officially retiring from agility, she entered Novice Preferred and finished both her NAP and NJP in three consecutive trials. She is recognized by the Norwegian Elkhound Association of America as a Versatile Norwegian Elkhound (VNE). The culmination of her show career was receiving the 2009 Susan D. Phillips Top Versatile Norwegian Elkhound Award, presented at the 2010 Nationals in Midland, MI. Metsa is leader of the pack, and teacher to our own dogs. Metsa was our “learning” Elkhound and was a dearly loved member of our household until she crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
Joshua was a Champion from the Puppy classes, earning 4 majors before turning 1 year old. He earned two obedience CD legs back-to-back at the 2005 GMNEA specialty, going HIGH IN TRIAL both days from the Novice B class, and finished his CD in three consecutive trials. Joshua earned his Rally Novice title at the 2006 NEAA Nationals with a 2nd place and a perfect score, his Rally Advanced at the Peoria Obedience Trial in September 2006, his Rally Excellent at the DeWitt, IA trial in 2007. He was a 2006 Eukanuba qualifier (a Top 25 Elkhound), and received a Versatility Award of Merit (V-AOM) from the NEAA in 2007. He was the #1 Rally Novice Elkhound in 2006. At the GMNEA Elkhound Specialty in 2009, Joshua was selected for an Award of Merit—out of the Veteran’s class! He repeated this performance at the NEINEA Specialty in June 2010 , and at the March 2012 GMNEA specialty, was Best Veteran in Sweeps. Joshua was recognized by the Norwegian Elkhound Association of America as a Versatile Norwegian Elkhound (VNE). A proven but sparingly used sire, Josh produced four champion offspring (Carmin, Donny, Tosca, and Hannah) and has multiple champion grandchildren . Josh went to the Rainbow Bridge on 5/31/12. We miss him terribly.
Ada is one of Carmin’s litter puppies, sired by AKC CH/UKC GRCH Alpha’s Cooperative Effort. Ada made her show ring debut at the 2006 NEAA Nationals, earning 4th place in Puppy Sweeps. Ada earned her first point going BOS over Specials. She finished her championship at 9 1/2 months old with four majors, taking several BOW over the boys and several BOS over Specials, all out of the Bred By Exhibitor Class. Ada was BEST OF OPPOSITE SEX at the June 16, 2007 NEINEA specialty. Ada was a proven dam, with three champion offspring and several champion grandchildren.
Ada continued her show career after having 2 litters, and went BEST OF OPPOSITE SEX at the 2011 GMNEA specialty.
Now deceased, Ada lives on in her children and grandchildren
Dante finished his championship in sytle, going Best of Breed over Specials for a 5-point major, following with a flourish—a Hound Group 4!
Dante was a sweet, even-tempered boy who loved attention. We know is is waiting patiently for us at the Rainbow Bridge. His singleton daughter, Page, finished her CH as a puppy.
Carmin was our first homebred champion, finishing out of the Bred-By Exhibitor class. Carmin was an athletic gal, earning a Jumpers with Weaves (JWW ) leg her first time out with a 2nd place, and her 2nd leg with a 4th place and a perfect score, finishing her NAJ with a perfect score and first place at the 2005 GMNEA specialty. Carmin was #1 Novice Jumpers with Weaves Elkhound, System II, for 2004. Carmin received an Award of Merit at the GMNEA 2005 specialty, and finished her Novice Agility title at the 2006 NEAA Nationals. She was a Versatile Norwegian Elkhound Excellent. INTENSE is the only word that described her. We briefly took her out of retirement at age 11 for a regional specialty, where she received an obedience High in Trial, as well as an Award of Merit in conformation. We miss her so much and know she is watching us from the pastures and forests across the Rainbow Bridge.
Donny earned his AKC championship in 3 months with 3 majors, all points coming from the Bred By Exhibitor class. Donny also had a Rally career and earned his Rally Novice title easily, finishing with a 1st place and a score of 97; followed equally easily by his Rally Advanced title in early 2008, with two Specialty first place finishes and an all-breed second place finish. In 2007, Donny entered his first UKC show and went BEST IN MULTI-BREED SHOW! He finished his UKC Championship in just one weekend, and finished 2007 as #4 UKC Elkhound in just 2 weekends of showing! Donny earned his UKC GRAND CHAMPIONSHIP in just 6 shows and was number 6 UKC Elkhound for 2008.
Donny, like his sister Carmin, is across the Rainbow Bridge.
